Croatia a kind of Germany with fine climate and exceptional coastline from Turgut Can's blog

Tomorrow ends our eighth holiday in Cavtat , Croatia . We discovered this place 10 years ago and, if we weren't away from Europe in the summer, here we did our traditional beach vacation in 2, then in 3. Nadia is here for the fourth time already, absolutely in love with the Adriatic.

The holiday was, as always, predictably sensational. We know the places like the locals, so we know exactly what to see.

We preferred a higher price for accommodation, but to see the sea every day from 3 meters away. This is how it can be seen from the terrace of the apartment, big enough for 4 people to have a royal meal.

We have a Lidl in the area, so we didn't give 150 euros a day to eat at restaurants, we made the usual foray into Albania, to see the Rozafa fortress, we walked around the Bay of Kotor, to the Montenegrins, we did scuba diving in Trsteno and we tanned on the walls in Dubrovnik .

View from the cemetery in Cavtat. They have a rake there with brooms and buckets, don't take them out of the way. In Timisoara, they also stole the flowers planted on my grave twice, well, another civilization.

Plus a day trip by boat to the Elaphiti Islands, which was worth every penny.

This hysterical color of the sea is not Photoshopped. From intense blue to bud green, you have just about every shade. And it's as clean as tap water.
But let's get back to the topic of the article: cleanliness.

Croatians are cleanliness freaks, just like the Germans once were. Everything is clean here, from the buildings to the street (I come with my feet from the beach without fear that we will be filled with shards), the beaches are impeccable, even those with a little sand, the apartment is in exceptional condition and the roads are perfect.

On the ferry to the Elafiti Islands, the chef prepares the fish for us. Delicious.
They have built enormously lately, the infrastructure is a dream, but the effort of the common man is clearly visible. In the morning, those who own cafes or restaurants here come out and sweep the street. That's how I explained to myself that even though piles of pine needles are falling, the street is still clean, if you can lick it off the ground.

Cavtat from the sea.

The ship that took us to the islands is cleaned in the evening in the harbor, it simply shines. It is an old wooden model ship, it has been repainted and varnished, so it looks like new.

I saw enough places, especially starting south towards Albania, as you leave Croatia it starts to be rubbish, like Romanians. Towards Albania it's even more fun, although they've cleaned up, it's still full of ice everywhere. But the Croatians don't lie, they have a coastline as clean as glass.

The services were, as usual, superlative, the people speak English quite well, the prices are acceptable for a seaside that generally attracts people with a handshake.

We leave here perfectly healthy, tanned and with the sea in our hearts.

I don't know when we will be back, because from New York it will be too much for us to take our vacations here, but you never know where life will take you.

Croatia remains for us the ideal destination for what we need, I just hope it won't be too many years until we can visit it again.
