For those who love nature and want to stay away from people, today I am sharing with you the most beautiful and little-known natural beauties of Romania.

1. Alba – Red Ravine


Râpa Roșie is a protected nature reserve that impresses with its shapes and colors. Also called the "coiffed pyramids" or the "small Canyon of Romania", the formations change their appearance and dimensions following heavier rains. 

 

 

 

2. Arad – Lunca Mureșului Natural Park


The Lunca Mureșului Natural Park is structured on four naturally protected areas: Prundul Mare, Padurea Cenad, Insula Mare Cenad and the Igriș Islands. All these portions offer a diverse range of activities, visual spectacles full of mastery, movement and coloratura. 

 

The main tourist attractions in Lunca Mureșului:

 

The specific meadow landscape, with the Mureș River as its main element ;
The cca 200 species of birds;
Outstanding biodiversity (birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish, insects, etc.);
The two very old monasteries inside the park ( Hodoș-Bodrog Monastery and Bezdin Monastery );
The pond with water lilies in the Prundul Mare Nature Reserve.

 

3.  Argeș – Monastery of the Stone Crow


Corbii de Piatră Monastery is the oldest cave monastery in our country, dug into a massive rock wall (14th century). It houses the oldest group of paintings (700 years old) and is the only place of worship in Romania that has two functional altars on the same nave. 

 

The Corbii de Piatră Monastery together with the Nămăiesti Monastery and the Negru Vodă Citadel form an equilateral triangle with a side of 20 km, a perfect geometric shape, known as the initiatory, magical or sacred triangle of Argeş, about which you can read more here .

 

4.  Bacău - "300 stairs" route | Slanic Moldova


The 300 stairs route, also known as "Traceul 5", is a walk through the forests at the foot of the Dobru mountain, above the mineral springs area of ​​Slănic Moldova and along the Slănic Gorges.

 

The trail starts near the springs, its stairs go up through the forest and although there are serpentines in some places, the entire trail is easy and practicable. You have to remember that this route does not require physical training or specialized equipment for mountain hiking, but it would help if you are equipped for sports. The average duration of the complete route is a maximum of two hours.

 

 

5.  Bihor – Evantai Waterfall


To reach Evantai Waterfall, you need to pass through a cave, the home of the Galbena river, which then opens up into a "fan" of water (hence the name of the place). Once you arrive in Chiele Galbenei, you must take the Circuitul Galbenei route, marked with a yellow dot, and you will reach the 10-meter-long waterfall. 

 

 

6. Bistrita-Năsăud – Colibița Lake 
"Marea de la Munte" or Colibița Lake stretches for five kilometers, at the foot of the Călimani mountains, and bears the name of the locality, which was flooded and which later gave birth to it. At least that's what the legends you hear from the locals say. To get to Colibiţa Lake, you have to travel a winding road beyond Bistrita Bârgăului, which at first glance seems like a simple village. When the reservoir appears on your way, you know for sure that you have reached your destination because you can already admire the lake in all its splendor.

 

It is said that at the bottom of the lake there would be part of the sunken houses, including the old church in Colibiţa, and when the water level drops, you can see the cross of the church. The locals say that the lake is cursed and that every year a tribute is paid with a human life.

 

 

7.  Botoșani – Cornisa Aquapark & ​​Sports Botoșani


Cornisa Aquapark & ​​Sports is a project started from the desire to bring the community a reason for pride, a place of fun, adrenaline and relaxation with various activities designed to delight the eyes of children and adults in Botoșani and everywhere.

 

 

8. Brașov - "Libearty" Sanctuary


On the map of Romania, more precisely, on the outskirts of the city of Zărnești, in Brașov county, the largest brown bear reserve in the world reigns quietly. The 'Libearty' sanctuary has so far rescued around 100 brown bears that were either mistreated by their owners or kept in suffocating cages, all to the amusement of tourists who wanted a 'bear photo'. The place can be visited subject to certain rules. 

 

 

9.  Brăila – Small Island of Brăila 


Often called the gateway to the Brăilei Delta, the Small Island of Brăilei is a protected nature reserve that preserves aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems in a form close to the original one, with the Popa and Egreta area being the main natural tourist attractions.

 

 

10.  Buzău – The rock settlements in the Buzăului Mountains


The hearth of the hermitages in the Buzău Mountains is spread by stone wonders, dwellings from the pre-Christian period. Dwellings where people lived in the Neolithic and then hermits until the end of the 19th century. There are more than 15 tourist attractions in the entire clearing, and the route is a longer one, so you need patience. 

 

 

11.  Caraș-Severin – Scărișoara and Ineleţ hamlets


The villages of Scarişoara and Ineleţ, on Valea Cernei, are among the most isolated places in the country. The only access road to the villages is represented by the stairs built from acacia wood, in the early 1970s.

 

Two teams worked to build the stairs. Some workers were up and holding the ropes letting the ladders down. The others were lowered to the base of the mountain to grab the rock stairs. 

 

 

12.  Călărași – Păcuiul lui Soare Island


If you want to travel to Păcuiul lui Soare Island, choose to spend a whole day or even stay overnight. Whether you choose to fish , admire nature or bathe in the warm waters of the Danube, this place will go straight to your heart. The place impresses with its historical value, but also with its absolutely fascinating biodiversity.

 

 

13.  Cluj – Salina Turda


Salina Turda or the gateway to the heart of Transylvania is one of the most important tourist attractions in Cluj county. It is assumed that last year more than 700,000 tourists crossed its threshold. It is known not only as a tourist attraction, but also for its recreational areas, for the Salina Balneara, and/or for the protected area in the surroundings. Although it is an enclosed space, Salina is very spacious and therefore safe to visit during the pandemic. We recommend that you go up and down the stairs and use the elevator less.

18.  Galați – The Danube embankment in Galaţi


The Danube embankment in Galati is an ideal place for a promenade, jogging, rollerblading, cycling or just a simple relaxing walk, alone or accompanied. On the cliff you will find some metal sculptures that attract attention.

 

Called by many an open-air museum of modern art, the complex contains only monumental works of metal art . The first works were made at the 1976 and 1977 editions of the Galati Metal Sculpture Camp and are signed by important Romanian sculptors. Iron was chosen as a local material. 

 

 

19.  Giurgiu – Comana Natural Park


The route through Comana Natural Park is marked with a red cross. You can take the Gelu Naum lane from the park entrance to the Ornithological Observatory or walk/bike through the forest.

 

Bikes can be rented right from the park. If you opt for a bicycle, you must know that there will be easy sections through the forest, but also more difficult passages. Whichever version you choose, the markings are always present. 

 

 

Gorj – Muierilor cave


Muierilor Cave is the first electrified cave in Romania. In 1955 it was named Cave Reserve and Natural Reserve Monument. It is said that it bears this name, because women and children took shelter in the cave during the wars . The petrified waterfalls provide an amazing spectacle.
